Kimberly Brock is the bestselling author of The Lost Book of Eleanor Dare, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Townsend Prize for Fiction, and The River Witch, recipient of the Georgia Author of the Year Award. She is the founder of Tinderbox Writers Workshop and has served as a guest lecturer for many regional and national writing workshops including at the Pat Conroy Literary Center. A native of North Georgia, she now lives near Atlanta. Her latest novel, The Fabled Earth, releases October 1, 2024 via Harper Muse.

Robert Gwaltney and Jeffrey Dale Lofton interview Federico Eribia
Federico Erebia received the 2024 Lambda Literary Exceptional New Writer Award. His debut novel, Pedro & Daniel, follows two gay, neurodivergent, Mexican American brothers, over a twenty-four year span, who experience joy and laughter, despite years of abuse and oppression.  Pedro & Daniel has won numerous awards, starred reviews, and other accolades, including Book of the Year by Kirkus Reviews and Bank Street. It was a finalist for the Ohioana Book Award and is long listed for the Massachusetts Book Award. Federico is on the SCBWI Impact & Legacy Fund’s steering committee, the board of Read Your World, Inc., and is a state leader for Authors Against Book Bans. He is a member of various other writing groups. 
Federico is also a retired physician, woodworker, poet, and illustrator. He enjoys the intersections of his gay, neurodivergent, and Mexican American identities. He and his husband live near Boston, Massachusetts.

Piper G. Huguley’s biographical historical fiction, By Her Own Design: a novel of Ann Lowe, Fashion Designer to the Social Register (William Morrow Publishing) tells the inspiring story of the Black fashion designer of Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress. By Her Own Design was a Booklist top 100 Editor’s Choice selection for 2022 and was named one of the top 100 books of 2022 in Canada by the Globe and Mail newspaper.
She is also the author of Sweet Tea by Hallmark Publishing and the author of two historical romance series: “Migrations of the Heart”, about the Great Migration and “Home to Milford College”. Her next historical fiction book, American Daughters (2024), is the story of the decades-long interracial friendship between Alice Roosevelt and Portia Washington, the rebel teenage daughters of President Theodore Roosevelt and Booker T. Mimi Herman is a Kennedy Center teaching artist and codirector of Writeaways writing workshops in France, Italy, Ireland, and New Mexico. She serves as vice-chair of the Board of Directors for the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, and has taught in the Masters of Education programs at Lesley University, served as the North Carolina Piedmont Laureate and been an associate editor for Teaching Artist Journal. Since 1990, she has engaged over 25,000 students and teachers with her warm and intuitive teaching style. Her novel, The Kudzu Queen, was selected by the North Carolina Center for the Book for the 2023 Library of Congress “Great Reads from Great Places” and has been longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and shortlisted for the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award.

Robert Gwaltney & Jeffrey Dale Lofton introduce Curtis Chin A co-founder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop in New York City, Curtis Chin served as the non-profits’ first Executive Director. He went on to write for network and cable television before transitioning to social justice documentaries. Chin has screened his films at over 600 venues in twenty countries. He has written for CNN, Bon Appetit, the Detroit Free Press and the Emancipator Boston Globe. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Chin has received awards from ABC Disney Television, New York Foundation for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and more. His memoir, "Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant" was published by Little, Brown in Fall 2023. His essay in Bon Appetit was selected for Best Food Writing in America 2023.

Clay Smith is the literary director at the Library of Congress. In that role, he curates the lineup of the National Book Festival and oversees the Library’s ambassador-ships, which include the United States Poet Laureate and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Previously, he was the editor-in-chief of Kirkus Reviews and the literary director of the San Antonio Book Festival and the Texas Book Festival and worked for Sundance Film Festival.

Gwydion Suilebhan is a cultural critic, essayist, and play-wright. A lifelong arts advocate, he serves as both the Ex-ecutive Director of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation and the Project Director of the New Play Exchange for the Nation-al New Play Network. A founding member of The Welders, a Helen Hayes Award-winning playwrights collective in Washington, DC, Suilebhan previously held the position of Director of Brand and Marketing for Woolly Mammoth. Earlier in his career, he worked as a brand and communications consult-ant for arts and culture organizations. Suilebhan currently serves on the board of the Alliance for Jewish Theatre. From 2017-2020, he was a member of the Council of the Dramatists Guild of America. He speaks widely on the intersection between the arts and technology in the 21st century.

With so many articles today about how hard it is for men to show affection towards each other, let alone maintain those relationships, how very interesting to discuss male friendship. Especially for the month of February. You can’t say the word February and not think “Valentine” which is mostly about couples, and it is about love, but it’s also about the most important relationship there is - friendship.
Of course these two friends came to mind - Jeff Arch and Eoin Dempsey.
